LTC 2021 Message

Blessings to all of you! We hope that you all are safe and healthy during this most challenging time for so many. We’ve all been affected by this pandemic in different ways and your collective LTC efforts are no different. We are writing to all of you today to first thank everyone for their efforts to pivot quickly to serve our Lord in 2020 and to talk about how we can continue to serve together in 2021.

For 2021, we feel strongly that it is important now, more than ever, that our children have something to help them learn about the Lord and His love for us. Social isolation due to stay at home orders, stay at home schooling, and limited ability to worship together have been difficult on us all. As such, we believe it is so important that we provide our children the instruction, opportunity to grow, and love that our Lord wants for them. While there is so much uncertainty, we feel that having LTC in 2021 is crucial to serving God together.

To ensure we can have LTC in 2021 regardless of the pandemic’s status and keep the safety of all participants at its highest, LTC 2021 will be a live, virtual event this year. Just as our congregations have pivoted to distance-worship events, we are going to do the same to continue our desire for God to shine His light through us and our students. LTC 2021 will continue to have pre-convention events as well as convention events on Easter weekend (April 2-4, 2021). Rather than taped events like we did last year, this year we will be doing our convention events live via a virtual conferencing system so that we will be able to see and interact with each other in real time. We are currently working with our convention event coordinators to modify events to maximize virtual participation and will be publishing a new manual by January 1, 2021, the same day that registration will open.  Here are the highlights of the changes:

Pre-Convention Events:
No changes to our existing pre-convention events. Christian Art, Bulletin Board, Scrapbook, Worship Banner, and Leadership Challenge will be moved to pre-convention events for 2021. We plan to have a special virtual showcase session for Christian Art, Bulletin Board, and Worship Banner during the virtual awards ceremony described below.

Convention Events:
Bible Bowl, Bible Reading, Puppets, Signing for the Deaf, Extemporaneous Speech, Prepared Speech, Live Modern Christian Drama and Chorus will be offered with modifications to make them offered live in a virtual setting. For example, the rules for chorus will be modified to allow for solo efforts and family groups, Live Modern Christian Drama participants will be able to offer monologues and virtual presentations. Unfortunately, we’ve determined Song Leading is not viable to be conducted in a virtual environment and will resume as a convention event in 2022.

Awards Ceremonies: We will have a virtual awards ceremony for all pre-convention and convention events on May 2, 2021. We are excited to offer this so that we can all celebrate the achievements of our students in front of their parents, friends, and family.

Registration Fees:
As a result of our having a fully virtual event this year, we are also taking $15 off all registration fees for 2021. This will provide the resources needed to provide awards, trophies, plaques, and T-shirts for all participants (which we can all wear at our Awards ceremony!).

We hope that you’ll join us in our spirit of hopefulness and faith in offering LTC in 2021 with these modifications that will balance the safety of all with the opportunity to learn and grow in our walk with the Lord. Your leadership in promoting these opportunities to the youth in your congregations is essential. While we acknowledge the potential of “Zoom fatigue,” we know that this is the best and safest way for us to know that each and every student who wants to participate will be able to do so. We too lament our inability to get together in person this year. LTC is about the Lord and His work. We remain committed to share our Lord’s word through LTC and the learning, growth, and love that comes from studying His word to bring His message to others. We look forward to working with you all to continue supporting your students and their parents.
